This position is responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring and managing the local and wide area networks of an organization to ensure maximum uptime for users. This position will be an escalation point for all network related issues. Support will be provided onsite, remotely, over the phone, or via email. The role can include designing system configurations, documenting and managing the installation of a new network, and maintaining and upgrading existing systems as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Provides resolution for escalated network service tickets
  • Designing and implementing new network solutions and/or improving the efficiency of current networks
  • Installing, configuring and supporting network equipment including routers, proxy servers, switches, WAN accelerators, DNS and DHCP
  • Configuring firewalls, routing and switching to maximize network efficiency and security
  • Maximizing network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting
  • Evaluates existing systems and/or user needs to analyze, design, recommend, and implement system changes
  • Arranging scheduled upgrades, including patching, firmware, and system upgrades
  • Investigating faults in the network, included performance related issues.
  • Coordination and collaboration with 3rd party security provider to manage and maintain customer security posture
  • Develops and maintains all systems, applications, security, and network configurations
  • Maintains a log of completed work using an incident-tracking application
  • Create and update support documentation in accordance with standards to improve future troubleshooting efforts

Requirements

  • 5+ years recent network troubleshooting experience
  • Certifications: MCP, MCSA, CCNA, CCNP, Network +, Security +, or similar
  • Must be resourceful and able to take initiative in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently troubleshoot technical problems
  • Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g. IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QOS)
  • Solid understanding of the OSI or TCP/IP model
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools
  • Professional customer service skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to work in an environment providing 24x7x365 support
  • Ability and willingness to participate in a standard on-call rotation for afterhours support
  • Customer-oriented and cool-tempered
